The commentary "Al-Lubab fi 'Ulum al-Kitab" (The Essence of the Book's Sciences) by Imam Abu Hafs 'Umar ibn 'Adil al-Hanbali (d. 880 AH/1475 CE) is considered one of the most prominent exegetical works in the Islamic heritage. It combines traditional interpretation with interpretation by opinion, with a special focus on linguistic, grammatical, rhetorical, and jurisprudential aspects. This article presents an analytical study of the topics of genitive nouns in the commentary "Al-Lubab" in Surat al-Ma'idah (verses 26-75), introducing Imam Ibn 'Adil al-Hanbali and his exegetical approach. The research aims to highlight the precision of his grammatical analyses and review his views on genitive nouns in comparison with other exegetical commentaries such as al-Kashshaf by al-Zamakhshari and Mafatih al-Ghayb by al-Razi. The article is divided into three sections: the first discusses Ibn 'Adil's biography, lineage, and scholarly standing; the second reviews his exegetical approach and style; and the third focuses on analyzing the grammatical topics related to genitive nouns within the specified scope. This article aims to highlight Ibn Adil's contributions to Quranic sciences and shed light on the importance of his interpretation as an academic reference for researchers in Arabic language and interpretation.
